Community Partnership for Youth Capital Fund

Our vision is that every woman and girl has what she needs to be healthy, confident and able to fulfill her dreams. When a woman thrives, her family thrives. When a family thrives, the community thrives.

About CPY

Community Partnership for Youth (CPY) is a grassroots, nonprofit organization serving youth and families in Seaside, CA for more than 30 years. We provide positive alternatives to gangs, drugs and violence while reinforcing individual strengths. Our vision is to provide local youth with a safe, structured environment that encourages healthy boundaries, positive self-esteem and the ability to make good choices for a full and successful life.

We provide a safe, nurturing environment and relief from trauma with enrichment and prevention programming including:

  • Afterschool Mentor-Tutoring
  • Six-week all-day Summer program
  • Middle school leadership/life skills
  • High school leadership/life skills/job preparation
  • Ramon Avila Technology and design center
  • Visual and performing arts academy
  • Remote mentoring art class
  • Weekly food distribution to families (in partnership with ALL-IN Monterey and Monterey County Food Bank)

The Need

The children have had more than their fair share of hardship.

  • Over 16% had a family member killed, 59% had a family member die, more than 40.6% know someone in jail or prison (16.9% parent, 20% sibling, 40% relative or friend)
  • Nearly 30% have seen someone use drugs, more than 14% know someone in a gang, over 42% have been bullied
  • 35% have moved in the past year, more than 13% have been homeless and over 60% have lived with relatives or friends

The Vision

CPY is a safe place for these youth and provides an effective antidote to counteract many of these problems. In a 2023 survey, 99.4% indicate they feel safe at CPY, 96.9% indicate they feel that the leaders listen and care for them and 71.7% have memorized and try to live by the CPY Standards.

In 2024 CPY created the Community Partnership for Youth Capital Fund at the Community Foundation for Monterey County to build sustainability for the organization. The goal of the campaign is to raise $1.5 million to:

  • purchase their current building, establishing the CPY Community Center as a permanent home
  • save $45,000 annually to sustain and expand their programs and services
  • enhance the quality of life for local youth and families

This campaign will enable CPY to continue to make a difference now and for years to come.

Some of our kids go through so much trauma. Every day when we build on individual strengths and see lives changed we know we’re doing the right thing.” – Shari Hastey, Executive Director
