The Community Foundation for Monterey County (CFMC) makes a meaningful difference by working together with donors, nonprofit organizations and community leaders towards a vision of healthy, safe, vibrant communities.
The Community Foundation for Monterey County has grown in its role as a community leader. We respond to disasters such as fires and floods, granting nearly $10 million since 2016 to help those affected. The Foundation’s works to bring people and nonprofits together to address challenges around important issues such as homelessness, affordable housing and mental health.
Current programs and initiatives include:
A key part of our mission is to inspire and facilitate philanthropy. Whether it’s a year-end gift to Monterey County Gives!, creating a charitable fund or planning an estate gift to leave a charitable legacy, we help you meet your unique giving goals. More than 700 individuals, families and businesses have partnered with the Foundation to strengthen our communities.
The Foundation offers many types of funds from donor advised to scholarships, to support the nonprofits or causes of your choice.
Monterey County Gives! A partnership with the Monterey County Weekly Community Fund and the Monterey Peninsula Foundation, Monterey County Gives! inspires millions in gifts each year to benefit participating local nonprofits.

The Community Foundation improves the quality of life in Monterey County through grantmaking, initiatives, community impact investing, disaster response and strengthening nonprofit leadership.
Generous donors fuel more than $40 million in grants each year to benefit hundreds of nonprofits in Monterey County and beyond.
The CFMC undertakes select programs and initiatives to address community needs. Many initiatives are supported by funding partners seeking to increase their impact through collaboration. The Salinas Inclusive Economic Development Initiative (SIEDI), works with partner organizations to create economic opportunity in the Salinas Valley.
The CFMC continually looks for ways to deepen its impact. The Community Impact Investment (CII) program is a way to utilize the assets of the foundation beyond grantmaking for the good of the community.
The Center for Nonprofit Excellence (CNE) works with nonprofits of all types and sizes to be stronger, more resilient and equitable. We help staff, boards and volunteers make meaningful connections to resources and one another.
The Community Foundation for Monterey County is a philanthropic first responder in times of fires, flood and other disasters. 100% of donations are used for grantmaking for relief and recovery.
