About the Fund
The Communities for Sustainable Monterey County Endowment Fund is a designated fund which supports the nonprofit organization Communities for Sustainable Monterey County (CSMC) for its public, charitable, scientific, literary and educational purposes. The fund was created in 2020 by Robert Frischmuth in honor of his wife the late Denyse Frischmuth, who served as President of the CSMC Board of Directors shortly after its creation until her death in July, 2020.
About Denyse Frischmuth
Denyse worked on International Business Development with software and hardware companies in Silicon Valley and did International Market Research at NASA/Ames. She volunteered as a court appointed advocate for children (CASA), as a tutor in the America Reads Program, and as a business mentor to youth at risk. She is a past Board member of the United Nations Association of the USA.
Her environmental work included organizational leadership in campaigns for curbside recycling, solar panels on new commercial buildings, and a workplace carpooling program. Denyse contributed leadership at CSMC for the establishment of local sustainability groups under its umbrella. She graduated with a B.A. in Liberal Arts from Laval University in Québec, and did graduate work in Linguistics at the U. of Illinois. She was a 2007 recipient of the Woman of the Year award by the Monterey County Board of Supervisors.
As a wife and as president of CSMC, Denyse was loving, meticulous, and tenacious. With her calm demeanor and charming French accent, no one could ever say ‘no’ to her.” – Robert Frischmuth
