Touchy Topics in Nonprofit Mergers

This free interactive presentation is offered by LaPiana.

This will be a 90-minute Zoom session led by four La Piana consultants — Amia Grashin, Lara Jakubowski, Luis Vergara, and Scott Cotenoff — who will share practical knowledge and facilitate smaller breakout groups for peer learning.

Part presentation and part small-group discussions, this session will explore how to navigate the complexities of a potential merger or strategic partnership, including:

  • Determining if and when to explore a merger or other form of strategic partnership, including during times of crisis or transition
  • Ensuring staff and board alignment throughout the process
  • Deciding on leadership, structure, and staffing for a combined organization, and which entity will remain
  • Managing day-to-day operations in the midst of merger discussions, from fundraising and staffing decisions to launching new initiatives
